Clinton-Woods

Clinton Woods (born May 1, 1972) is a boxer from Sheffield, England. Growing up in tough surroundings he was involved in a life of drugs and crime before taking up boxing as an escape. He is a big Sheffield Wednesday fan, and has paraded his belts at home games in recent years. He trains on the tough Gleadless Valley estate and is managed by Dennis Hobson another avid Wednesday fan. Today he is the IBF Light Heavyweight World Champion – a title he gained on March 3, 2005 by defeating Rico Hoye. He has also previously fought for the WBC Light Heavyweight title but lost to Roy Jones Jr in 2002. His fight record is 39 wins (23 by knockout), 3 losses and 1 draw. In May 2006 Woods' defeated Australia's Jason DeLisle in the 6th round. The fight was staged in Woods' home-town at the Ponds Forge complex in Sheffield.

Third meeting with Glen Johnson

Woods' most recent bout was on the 2nd of September 2006 where he met Glen Johnson for the third time. Although the previous two fights resulted in a draw and a victory for the Jamaican, Woods took the fight by a split decision and retained his IBF Light Heavyweight title.

In the ninth round Woods sustained heavy punishment to the head at the hands of the Jamaican, but the Sheffield boxer fought back to win the subsequent rounds. American Richard Bays scored the fight 115-112 in favour of Woods, Mickey Vann scored the contest 115-113 in favour of Johnson and Roberto Ramirez 116-112 scored in favour of Woods.
