Devern-Hansack

Devern M. Hansack (born February 5, 1978 [as listed by the Red Sox, other sources have listed him as being born in 1980 and 1982] in Pearl Lagoon, Nicaragua) is a pitcher who currently plays in the Boston Red Sox organization. He bats and throws right-handed.

He made his Major League debut against the Toronto Blue Jays on September 23rd, 2006, pitching 5.1 innings and allowing 3 runs while recording 2 strikeouts.

In his next appearance on October 1, 2006, in the last game of the season which was meaningless to the Red Sox, Hansack pitched a no-hitter for five innings before the remainder of the game was rained out. Because of a change in the rules in 1991, Hansack does not get credit for an official no-hitter, but he does get credit for both a complete game and a shutout. Hansack faced fifteen batters, walking only Fernando Tatis, who was then retired in a double play.

Hansack did a great job in 2007 spring training, despite which he is unlikely to make the team at the start of the 07 - 08 season. The management has stated that they have high hopes for him and expect to put him on the roster for the Red Sox in the future.
