Danys-Báez
Danys Báez Gonzalez (born September 10, 1977 in Pinar del Río, Cuba) is a current Major League relief pitcher for the Baltimore Orioles. Báez has previously played for the Los Angeles Dodgers and Atlanta Braves in 2006, the Tampa Bay Devil Rays from 2004-2005, and for the Cleveland Indians (2001-2003). He bats and throws right-handed. Báez defected from the Cuban national team at the 1999 Pan American Games in Canada.
Báez's normal trade is as a closer. When the Dodgers traded for him, the intent was for him to serve as a closer until Éric Gagné was healthy. Báez managed to handle the job for the month of April, however in May after blowing four saves in four chances he was removed from the role.
Báez was traded to the Braves on July 28, 2006 along with infielder Willy Aybar in exchange for Wilson Betemit. While in Atlanta, he was the set-up man for the Braves' newly acquired closer Bob Wickman.
Báez signed with the Orioles on November 26, 2006 for $19 million for three-years, depending on a physical. He will probably serve as the set-up man for Orioles' closer Chris Ray.
